The needs analysis questionnaire is an essential tool for gathering information from trainers working with refugees in vocational-educational trainings in the partner countries of the project. The questionnaire aims to assess the trainers' level of familiarity with mental health and mental wellbeing challenges faced by refugees, their confidence in identifying and addressing these issues, awareness of available resources, knowledge of trauma-informed teaching practices, and strategies used to create a supportive learning environment. By collecting data from trainers across the partner countries through this questionnaire, the report will provide a comprehensive understanding of the needs, gaps, and areas for improvement in supporting the mental wellbeing of refugees in vocational-educational trainings.
The integration of refugees into the labour market is a pivotal aspect of their successful resettlement and a cornerstone of the NewFuture project. This section examines the challenges and opportunities that refugees encounter in the labour market highlighting strategies and policies that support their economic and social integration.
Based on the identified best practices from "Peace of Mind" in Germany, "Welcome Home Program" in Poland, "Online Mental Health Training for the Refugee Population" in Portugal, "Project Mind Yourself" in Ireland, "TrauMaTRIX" in Austria, and "Microintegration through One-by-One Dialog" in Norway, the “Improving the capacity of the civil sector to respond to humanitarian crises and support refugees and migrants“ in Bulgaria and the “I Get You” in Romania the Erasmus+ Project NewFuture should include the following aspects in its guide for professionals: 1. Trauma-Informed Care Approach 2. Personalized Support and One-on-One Dialogue 3. Cultural Sensitivity and Cultural Competence 4. Integration of Art and Visual Resources 5. Comprehensive Support Services
In the NewFuture project, we created animated videos to make mental health topics easier to understand and talk about. The videos focus on four key themes: trauma, social isolation, difficulties in adjustment, and stigma—each paired with a story of resilience, integration, adaptability, and empathy.
To reach different audiences, the videos are available in two forms:
Handmade animated videos – short stories showing both problems and solutions.
AI-powered animated videos – the same topics explained in simpler language for easy access.
These videos highlight the main mental health challenges refugees often face—trauma, social isolation, difficulties in adjustment, and stigma. Each short animation illustrates how these struggles appear in daily life.
On the other hand, they present positive ways forward—resilience, integration, adaptability, and empathy. They offer hope, practical coping strategies, and show how supportive communities can make a difference.
To make the topics even more accessible, especially for people with lower literacy or language skills, we also created a second series of AI-powered animated videos. These videos use simpler language and visual storytelling, making the messages easy to understand for everyone.
This result equips volunteers and community leaders with knowledge, tools, and examples to support refugees’ mental wellbeing and social inclusion at the local level.
Developed as part of Project Result 2: Guide for Volunteers and Community Leaders, this podcast highlights the crucial role of volunteers and community actors in supporting refugees’ mental health and social integration. It offers practical insights, reflections, and examples to inspire empathy, resilience, and inclusive community engagement.
Each of the three project results was piloted in Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, and Portugal through local workshops and testing activities. These pilot phases engaged VET professionals, volunteers, and learners to assess the quality, relevance, and applicability of the materials.
The evaluations demonstrated that:
The Training Kit is practical, adaptable, and directly applicable in VET contexts.
The Animated Videos effectively raise awareness and make sensitive topics accessible to diverse audiences.
The Guide for Volunteers and Community Leaders provides clear, actionable guidance for community-level support.
Feedback confirmed a high level of satisfaction and strong usability across different settings and cultural contexts.
The project results were created to ensure long-term relevance and broad European impact. They are:
Practical and usable – ready for direct application in training, workshops, and community initiatives
Accessible – easy to understand, visually engaging, and adaptable to different cultural and educational contexts
Sustainable – based on research and tested practices that remain valuable beyond the project’s lifetime
Transferable and replicable – suitable for adoption by organisations and communities across Europe
